Champion Lineage

The earliest Champion direct ancestor that I have found is John Champion, who was born about 1715 and died sometime after 1776.  He lived in that portion of Frederick County,VA that became Berkeley County when Frederick County was subdivided into three separate counties.  To complicate matters, Berkeley County later became part of West Virginia when it seceded from Virginia in 1863 and was admitted into the Union that year.

I’d like to thank Carl Everett Champion of Tell City, Indiana for his great collaboration in helping me work through the Indiana and Kentucky portions of the lineage.  I am his third cousin, once removed (the John Champion born in 1750 in Berkeley County, Virginia is our common grandparent and Carl and my Dad are of the same generation).
